TRICARE for Life

TRICARE FAQ

Yes. Active duty soldiers receive TRICARE Prime at no cost. Families of active duty soldiers pay only cost-shares for certain services. Dental and vision are separate programs with their own premiums.
Active duty TRICARE coverage ends 180 days after separation (or sooner if you start other employment with health benefits). Retirees with 20+ years can enroll in TRICARE Select or use TRICARE for Life when Medicare-eligible.
Army Reserve and National Guard members can enroll in TRICARE Reserve Select when not on active duty orders. Monthly premiums apply but are typically lower than civilian insurance plans.
